How You Can Help

All work done by Project Linus is 100% volunteer. There are several ways that you can help, even if you don't know how to knit, crochet or sew.

1. Make a Blanket
Donate a homemade blanket or afghan to the Monterey Bay chapter of Project Linus to be given to a child in need. It is our policy to accept blankets of all sizes depending on the needs of the recipient facility (hospitals, shelters, etc.). All styles of blankets are welcome including quilts, tied comforters, fleece blankets, crocheted or knitted afghans, and receiving blankets in child-friendly colors. Click here for guidelines.

2. Wish List
For those individuals or organizations wishing to help but cannot make a blanket, we are always in need of the following; batting, yarn, thread, coping services, paper, envelopes and postage stamps.

3. Make a Fabric Donation
Fabric is always needed for blankets. However, we do not accept fabric that cannot be made into a blanket. Therefore, only cotton, flannel and fleece fabrics are accepted. This means no wool, denim, satin, courduroy, velvet, dress fabric or clothing. In other words, they must be something a child would like to have made into a blanket. They must be no smaller than 1/4 yard pieces. If you're not sure if your fabric will be accepted, please call Noni at 625-0231.

4. Make a Monetary Donation
Project Linus is a national non-profit organization with a 501c3 status with the Internal Revenue Service. Monetary donations may be made by doing the following:

Make your check or money order payable to "Project Linus." Write "For Monterey Bay Chapter" on your donation. Send your donation to

5. Company Support by Becoming a Sponsor
There are many businesses that have volunteer programs that match volunteer hours with dollars. Ask your company if they would be interested in giving a warm hug through the gift of sponsoring Project Linus so that we may give a blanket to a child in need. If the company you are employed by or if you own a company that is interested in helping out, contact Noni McVey at noni@projectlinus.info about how you or your employer can become a sponsor for Project Linus.

6. Get Youth Involved
Let your schools, service organizations and scout troops know about Project Linus. These groups can hold a special blanket-day or work individually. Many of our local high schools require community service hours for graduation and this would be a great way for them to receive hours and give to children and teens in their community.

7. Gift Certificates
Another nice way to contribute to your local Project Linus chapter is through a gift certificate. A gift certificate from Beverly Fabrics, JoAnn Fabrics, Michael's Crafts, Monarch Knitting, Walmart etc. will help our chapter purchase fabric, thread, batting, yarn and mailing supplies.

If you would like to purchase a gift certificate online, please visit the following websites:
  • Jo-Ann - This money will be used to purchase fabric, batting and sewing notions.
  • Michaels - This money will be used to purchase yarn.
  • United States Post Office - Please purchase 37 cent stamps and have them mailed to the address below. These will be used for mailing newsletters and thank you notes.
  • Walmart - This money will be used to purchase yarn, fabric and sewing notions.
Please have the gift certificates mailed to Project Linus, P.O. Box 223675, Carmel, CA 93922. Thank you.

8. Drop Off Points
As the chapter grows, there is a need for safe drop-off points for volunteers to leave their precious blankets. If your business would like to provide such a space, Noni will provide an attractive container for the blankets to be placed in. Just email Noni at noni@projectlinus.info if your business would like to help in this way.

If you are interested in getting involved, please contact Noni McVey at 831-625-0231 or send an email to noni@projectlinus.info.
